Brass and Percussion Supervisors Announced
Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps is proud to announce the return of Tony Granados as Brass Supervisor and Casey Sagolla-Slamp as Percussion Supervisor for the 2021 season!
They are both dedicated to making Carolina Gold a destination for students to gain a high quality music education and know that it starts from the top and works through them to get to each and every student. You'll notice this in the staff that they have chosen to help make this vision a reality.
Tony Granados
Currently working as a freelance musician in central North Carolina, Tony can be seen performing as a substitute and extra with the North Carolina Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, Carolina Ballet and NC Opera, and is a founding member of the Boylan Brass.
Tony is the Artistic Director for the Triangle Brass Band, winning the 3rd section in 2018 and runner up in 2019 at the NABBA Championships. From 2001-2013, he was the Director of the Triangle Youth Brass Band program, building it from 17 students to over 70 in two bands and winning 6 official NABBA Youth Section Championships. Tony is the current President of the North American Brass Band Association.
In addition to this, Tony maintains a private studio of high school and middle school students, and regularly runs sectionals for school bands. Tony is an adjudicator for marching bands and teaches brass techniques for several local and visible programs in NC.
Tony attended the University of Kentucky, and has also studied at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Towson State University in Maryland.
Casey Sagolla-Slamp
Casey Sagolla-Slamp is a percussionist, educator, and composer residing in Raleigh, North Carolina. As a freelance percussionist, Casey performs with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Virginia Opera, Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, Carolina Philharmonic, Florence Symphony Orchestra, Raleigh Symphony Orchestra, Durham Symphony Orchestra, Tar River Orchestra, North Carolina Brass Band and Triangle Brass Band. Additionally, he was a member of the 2012 and 2013 Cadets 2 Drum and Bugle Corps, performing as a marimbist in the front ensemble.
Casey has performed both nationally and internationally at conferences including, the College Band Directors National Conference, Virginia Music Educators Association Conference, North Carolina Music Educators Association Conference, North American Brass Band Association Championships, Great American Brass Band Festival, North Carolina Percussion Symposium, McCormick Marimba Festival and Taipei World Percussion Championships. Casey won the 2019 Taiwan Percussion Arts Alliance Solo Competition, placed second in the 2018 NABBA Percussion Solo Competition and placed second in the 2019 Taipei World Percussion Championships Solo Marimba Competition; winning the Silver Medal. Recently, Casey was selected to become a member of the PAS International Marimba Orchestra and will perform with the ensemble at PASIC 2021. An advocate for quality percussion education, Casey co-founded the North Carolina Percussion Symposium; a weekend event designed to connect high school and collegiate percussion students with some of the very best professional percussionists in the field. A few of the past guest artists include Mark Ford, Paul Rennick, Matt Penland, Casey Cangelosi and She-e Wu. Casey is currently the Director of Bands at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and the percussion instructor at the Ravenscroft School. He is also a front ensemble instructor for Green Hope High School, William G. Enloe High School, and Equinox Percussion. Previously, he served as the front ensemble caption head and arranger for Alchemy Independent and was a front ensemble instructor for the 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. In addition to his marching arts positions, Casey serves as the director of the award-winning Triangle Youth Percussion Ensemble. Casey earned a B.M. in percussion performance from James Madison University, studying with C. William Rice, Dr. Michael Overman and Marlon Foster. Casey is a member of the Percussive Arts Society and an artist endorser for Artifact Percussion, Dynasty USA and Sabian Ltd.
